Komunikat z 12. posiedzenia Międzynarodowego Komitetu Sterującego projektem budowy muzeum – miejsca pamięci na terenie byłego niemieckiego nazistowskiego obozu zagłady w Sobiborze

Międzynarodowy Komitet Sterujący projektem budowy muzeum-miejsca pamięci na terenie byłego niemieckiego nazistowskiego obozu zagłady w Sobiborze obradował w dniach 26 - 27 czerwca br. w Okunince w woj. lubelskim.

W spotkaniu, któremu przewodniczył Jarosław Sellin, sekretarz stanu w MKiDN, uczestniczyli przedstawiciele rządów Holandii, Słowacji i Izraela, a także Naczelny Rabin Polski Michael Schudrich i dyrekcja Państwowego Muzeum na Majdanku, które realizuje projekt.

Pierwszego dnia spotkania zorganizowana została wizja lokalna na terenie budowy muzeum-miejsca pamięci w Sobiborze. Prace budowlane realizowane są zgodnie z harmonogramem, ich zakończenie planowane jest na sierpień br. Następnie rozpocznie się wyposażenie obiektu oraz instalacja wystawy głównej. Otwarcie muzeum planowane jest w 2020 r.

W kolejnym dniu obrad uczestnicy zapoznali się z realizacją całościowego projektu architektonicznego z uwzględnieniem koncepcji zabezpieczenia i ekspozycji reliktów komór gazowych, odkrytych na terenie byłego obozu Zagłady w toku przeprowadzonych w ostatnich latach badań archeologicznych. Projekt i proponowane rozwiązania zostały jednomyślnie zaakceptowane przez wszystkich członków MKS.

Tomasz Kranz, dyrektor Państwowego Muzeum na Majdanku przedstawił także koncepcję plastyczną wystawy stałej wybraną w zorganizowanym przez muzeum międzynarodowym konkursie.

W ostatniej części uczestnicy spotkania wstępnie omówili plany związane z ceremoniami otwarcia muzeum i miejsca pamięci w Sobiborze. Jak wskazano wyżej, muzeum zostanie otwarte jesienią przyszłego roku, natomiast prace związane z miejscem pamięci będą ukończone w późniejszym terminie.

Press release from the 12^th meeting of the ISC for the project to establish a new museum – memorial site in the former Nazi German extermination camp in Sobibór

The ISC for the project to establish a new museum – memorial site in the former Nazi German extermination camp in Sobibor met on 26 – 27 June 2019 in Okuninka, Lublin Voivodeship.

The meeting has been attended by Jarosław Sellin, secretary of state in the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, and by government representatives of the Netherlands, Slovakia and Israel, as well as the Chief Rabi of Poland, Michael Schudrich, and the directors of Majdanek State Museum, which is in charge of the project.

The first day featured an on-site visit to the construction site within the premises of the museum – memorial site in Sobibor. The construction works are progressing as scheduled and are to be concluded in August 2019. Once the works have been concluded the next stage will consist in equipping the building and assembling the main exhibition. The museum opening is envisioned to take place in 2020.

The second day served to make the committee members familiar with the execution of the overall architectural design including the concept of securing and exhibiting the relics of the gas chambers, discovered within the premises of the former extermination camp following archaeological works that have been carried out in the recent years. The project as well as the proposed solutions have been unanimously approved by all the members of ISC.

Tomasz Kranz, director of the Majdanek State Museum, outlined the visual concept for the permanent exhibition selected via an international competition.

The last part of the meeting focused on the preliminary plans concerning the museum and memorial site opening ceremonies. As said, the museum will be opened in the fall of next year. The works on the memorial site will be completed at a later stage.
