Meeting of the Steering Committee of the international project of establishing the new Museum - Memorial Site in the area of the former German Nazi death camp in Sobibor (Warsaw, 15.10.2018)

The 11th meeting of the Steering Committee of the international project of establishing the new Museum - Memorial Site in the area of the former German Nazi death camp in Sobibor was held in Warsaw on 15th October 2018. The meeting gathered  representatives of Poland, Israel, the Netherlands and Slovakia forming the Steering Committee and  was chaired by Jarosław Sellin, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland. It was organised the day after an international event commemorating 75th anniversary of the uprising in the  German Nazi death camp in Sobibor. Official representatives of states from which the victims came were present at the commemoration along with victims' family members and numerous other guests.

The Committee is following the general progress of ongoing works on the memorial site with satisfaction. The opening of the museum is planned for 2020. In the current year the project is expected to receive financial support from the government of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The Committee welcomes the considerable effort being made to ensure that the memorial project is finalized soon and appreciates  recognition from all supporters and partners of the new Museum - Memorial Site.
